Nutrition and Enzymes

Nutrition And EnzymesPeople of all ages need to focus on nutrition and consume more than 40 nutrients to stay healthy. Unfortunately the old nutrition models don’t always work. Such issues such as environmental toxicity and GMO foods are huge wild cards in producing a good nutritional diet and life style. Consequently detox programs and nutrition aimed to removed poisons from the body are an important part of the process. With age, it becomes more important that diets contain enough calcium, fiber, iron, protein, and the vitamins A, C, D and Folacin. Reduce calories, select nutrient-dense foods, and enjoy smaller portions of foods high in fat, sugar and sodium. Because no one food or pill provides all of the nutrients, eat a variety of foods to get the full spectrum of nutrients. Nutrition sometimes depends on cultural and religious factors. The advantages of the Mediterranean diet are well known throughout the dietary world. These diets are actually higher in cholesterol but produce beneficial effects as cholesterol is the building blocks of many of the body’s hormones.  Vegetarians for example have different nutritional needs as a lack of animal protein is often difficult to make up. Older women often have higher protein needs as protein stores are quickly depleted and the body can draw on it’s lipid reserves affecting hormone production. This is particularly true of female athletics as they can quickly deplete their protein reserves.

When we become nutrient deficient, we experience a variety of symptoms and problems. Often then can be corrected by ingesting foods that contain the needed nutrient. The following Nutrient Chart explains the most common ailments.

In some cases, the prescription medications that we take rob our bodies of important nutrients. Check the following Prescription Depletions Chart to see if you are taking any of the medications that can contribute to this problem.
