Struggling with infertility can be an emotionally and physically challenging journey. For couples and individuals looking for alternative therapies to complement their fertility treatments, acupuncture offers a ray of hope. This ancient practice has gained recognition in recent years for its potential to improve fertility. We’ll explore the benefits of acupuncture in terms of infertility.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that is used to balance the flow of energy, or qi, in your body. Thin, sterile needles are placed in the skin along meridians to re-balance your energy. Most people don’t feel the needles at all.

Benefits of Acupuncture for Infertility

  1. Improved Blood Flow: Acupuncture can enhance blood circulation to the reproductive organs. This increased blood flow can provide more nourishment to the ovaries and uterus, potentially improving their function and increasing the chances of conception.
  2. Hormone Regulation: Acupuncture has been shown to regulate hormonal imbalances that can cause infertility. It can help reduce stress, which can, in turn, affect the release of hormones that play a crucial role in the menstrual cycle and ovulation.
  3. Stress Reduction: The journey through infertility can be incredibly stressful. Acupuncture promotes relaxation and reduces stress levels by stimulating the release of endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” hormones. Lower stress levels can create a more conducive environment for conception.
  4. Increased Success Rates with IVF: Many fertility clinics now recommend acupuncture as a complementary therapy for couples undergoing IVF. Studies suggest that acupuncture before and after embryo transfer during IVF can lead to higher success rates by promoting relaxation and improving the chances of implantation.
  5. Support for Male Fertility: Acupuncture is not limited to female infertility. It can also benefit male fertility by improving sperm count and motility, addressing issues such as erectile dysfunction, and reducing stress that may affect male reproductive health.

While acupuncture is not a guaranteed solution for infertility, it offers a holistic approach to fertility treatment. Its benefits extend beyond just the physical aspects, encompassing mental and emotional well-being as well. For couples and individuals seeking alternative therapies to enhance their fertility journey, acupuncture can be a valuable addition to their treatment plan.

As the days get shorter and the weather cools down, we know cold and flu season is upon us. In addition to leading a healthy lifestyle, acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments can help boost your immune system, keeping you from getting sick as easily.

Acupuncture for Flu Season

Whether you are trying to avoid getting sick or are fighting off an illness, acupuncture can help. Acupuncture and the use of Chinese herbs can help strengthen your immune system by adjusting the energetic balance within your body. Acupuncture can also speed up recovery from illness by boosting your body’s natural defense system. If you are fighting a cold or the flu, it is best to get acupuncture earlier to keep it from getting worse. However, it is still beneficial regardless of how long you have been sick.

Chiropractic Adjustments for Flu Season

Getting regular chiropractic adjustments can help you feel your best and fight off illness. Chronic stress can weaken your immune system making it easier for you to get sick and stay sick. A great way to reduce stress is by getting regular adjustments from a chiropractor. When our spines aren’t properly aligned, our central nervous system can be compromised. The central nervous system communicates with the rest of our body but when we are misaligned, it cannot function properly. Chiropractic adjustments can help keep us aligned and reduce stress

To avoid getting sick this winter, consider taking a holistic approach to your health. Acupuncture and chiropractic care offer many benefits, including reducing stress and boosting your immune system. You have nothing to lose with these forms of non-invasive medicine but so much to gain.

Finding Relief from Fall Allergies with Acupuncture

2023-09-15 11:46:36 drsadlon

As fall begins in Rochester, with its stunning foliage and crisp air, many residents eagerly anticipate the seasonal delights such as outdoor farmers markets or apple picking. However, for those plagued by fall allergies, this picturesque season can also bring discomfort in the form of sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion. While traditional treatments offer relief, an alternative option for treating your fall allergies worth exploring is acupuncture.

Understanding Fall Allergies

Fall allergies in Rochester are commonly triggered by the release of ragweed pollen, mold spores, and other environmental allergens. Symptoms often include nasal congestion, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and throat irritation. For many, this can disrupt daily life and enjoyment of the season.

Acupuncture: A Holistic Approach to Allergy Relief

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body. While it might not be the first treatment that comes to mind for allergies, many individuals have found relief from their allergy symptoms through acupuncture. Here’s how it works:

Balancing Qi (pronounced “chee”): According to traditional Chinese medicine, allergies can be caused by imbalances in the body’s Qi, or vital energy flow. Acupuncture aims to restore balance by stimulating specific points along meridians, or energy pathways.

Reducing Inflammation: Acupuncture has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, which can help alleviate the inflammation associated with allergy symptoms.

Boosting the Immune System: Acupuncture can strengthen the immune system, making your body more resilient to allergens.

Stress Reduction: Allergies and stress often go hand in hand. Acupuncture sessions are known for their relaxing effects, which can help reduce stress and its impact on allergy symptoms.

While fall allergies can put a damper on the joy of the season in Rochester, acupuncture offers a holistic and effective approach to managing allergy symptoms. Using acupuncture, you may find relief from your allergies and be better able to savor the beauty of fall.

Treating Respiratory Issues with Acupuncture

2023-08-24 11:34:10 drsadlon

Smoke from wildfires has been a concern for the Rochester region this summer as wildfires in Canada and elsewhere have brought it to the area.  The thick, hazy plumes of smoke carry a cocktail of harmful particles that can wreak havoc on our respiratory system. Find out how smoke from wildfires can affect your health and how acupuncture can help.

The Impact of Smoke from Wildfires on Lung Health

Particulate Matter and Toxins: Wildfire smoke is a complex mixture of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), gases, and toxins. PM2.5 refers to tiny particles that can penetrate deep into your lungs, causing inflammation and damage.

Respiratory Problems: Breathing in smoke can lead to a range of respiratory issues, including coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and exacerbation of pre-existing conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Inflammatory Response: The body’s natural response to smoke exposure is inflammation. While inflammation is essential for healing, chronic or excessive inflammation can harm the lungs and lead to long-term damage.

Acupuncture as a Holistic Approach to Lung Health

Acupuncture, a component of traditional Chinese medicine, involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body. This practice has been used for thousands of years to address various health concerns, including respiratory issues. Here’s how acupuncture can help combat the impact of smoke from fires on your lungs:

Reducing Inflammation: Acupuncture can help modulate the body’s inflammatory response. By stimulating specific acupuncture points, it encourages the release of anti-inflammatory substances, providing relief from smoke-induced lung inflammation.

Improved Lung Function: Acupuncture may enhance lung function by promoting relaxation of the airways and reducing bronchial constriction. This can alleviate symptoms like coughing and shortness of breath.

Stress Reduction: Wildfires and their associated smoke can be incredibly stressful. Acupuncture can help manage stress by regulating the body’s stress response. This can indirectly benefit lung health, as stress can exacerbate respiratory symptoms.

Enhanced Immune Response: Acupuncture has been shown to enhance the immune system’s response. Strengthening your immune system can help your body better defend against the harmful substances present in wildfire smoke.

Overall Well-being: Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health, addressing not only the physical symptoms but also the emotional and mental aspects of well-being. This can be especially important during times of crisis like wildfires when anxiety and fear are prevalent.

As wildfires continue to threaten our environment and health, it’s crucial to take proactive steps to protect our lungs from the harmful effects of smoke. Acupuncture, with its holistic approach to health and well-being, can complement other preventive measures such as staying indoors and using air purifiers. By reducing inflammation, improving lung function, and promoting overall well-being, acupuncture can be a valuable tool in mitigating the impact of smoke from fires on your lungs.

Acupuncture for Inflammation Caused by Long COVID

2023-04-19 09:04:48 drsadlon
acupuncture for inflammation

Inflammation can be caused by many things: infections, untreated injuries, exposure to certain toxins, and even autoimmune disorders where your body attacks healthy tissue. However, over the last few years a new culprit has emerged as a leading cause of on-going inflammation: long term COVID.

For most, moderate COVID-19 symptoms last about two weeks. But in other patients, long-term effects of the pathogen can cause lingering health concerns and can set off massive inflammation in the body.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), long COVID symptoms have been linked to inflammation. NIH and NYU researchers examined the effects of long COVID on hamsters and found that the olfactory epithelium – the lining inside the nose – showed extensive signs of inflammation long after the virus could be detected. Parts of the brain involved in processing smell, learning, and emotion were inflamed, as well.

A recent study published in Nature echoes these findings about COVID-related inflammation. The study helps explain how immune overreactions happen to patients who previously had COVID due to the front-line immune cells – monocytes and macrophages – being infected.

“All the patients we studies had signs of respiratory distress and pneumonia. The ones who had [COVID] had many more of these inflammasomes and dying cells,” said Dr. Judith Lieberman, a pediatric immunologist at Boston Children’s Hospital. “So it’s likely that [COVID] is particularly good at inducing it, but we don’t know why.”

Long COVID itself can be detrimental to day-to-day activities, but inflammation impacting these systems could result in further significant mood disorders like severe anxiety and depression.

Luckily, one of our specialties has shown to be a great help with the inflammation that’s been associated with long COVID.

Acupuncture for Inflammation

Acupuncture is an ancient form of complementary medicine that has been used to treat all kinds of health concerns for centuries. This treatment involves inserting thin needles into the skin to stimulate certain points of the body and correct imbalances.

The National Library of Medicine adds that the attributive effect of acupuncture has been specifically investigated in inflammatory cases. Since acupuncture stimulates the nerve endings deep below the skin’s surface, it can be shown to hinder inflammation and other imbalances throughout the body.

Typically, about a dozen of these needles are treated at once and there are multiple types of acupuncture that we practice here at Chiropractic Health and Acupuncture:

  • Auricular (relating to the ears)
  • Children’s Treatments
  • Cosmetic
  • Disposable Needles
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • General Acupuncture
  • Laser
  • Moxibustion
  • Traditional

It’s important to note that a vaccine injury could also lead to inflammation.
